After taking 5 wickets in the first innings, Murali will be the dangerman for the Windies on a fourth innings Trinidad pitch.
253 or bust. Those are the options facing the Windies at the end of day 3 of the second and final Test between the Windies and Sri Lanka at Port of Spain. After losing the first Test in Guyana, the West Indies batsmen will have to make 253 runs or face the prospect of being swept in the Caribbean for the first time ever.
The Windies were oh so close to setting themselves up for an easy win, but a magnificent 125 by Thilan Samaraweera and a fighting 45 by Chaminda Vaas, means that the Windies will have the dicey proposition of chasing 253 against the likes of Vaas and Muttiah Muralitharan and his world record 729 Test wickets. At 32/4 and 99/6 the Windies had Sri Lanka on the ropes, but as in the first innings, the Windies bowlers couldn't seal the deal and allowed a late order century partnership to get the Lankans out of trouble. In the first innings it was a 105 run partnership between Silva and Dilshan, this time it was a 138 run partnership between Samaraweera and Vaas.
With 2 days left in the match, the likelihood of a draw is slim, so it looks as this match will be historic one way or the other. Either a Sri Lanka win, their first series win in the Windies and the first home series sweep ever suffered by the Caribbean team or a Windies win and their first home Test win in almost 3 years.
Hat tip to Powen for the video.
